At McElheran's we are always shopping for new furniture lines to bring in for our discerning customers. Not just any lines will do. If I had to put a number on it I would guess that we only choose to bring in about 2% of the lines that we look at. To make it to our showroom, something really has to impress us.
This past furniture market we found one of the 2% in Fjords, a fabulous recliner line unlike anything we have carried in the past.
Fjords was started in Sykkylven Norway by brothers Otto and Mindor Hjellegjerde (thankfully they named their company Fjords and not Hjelladjerdes). Since 1941 they have been producing comfortable quality furniture based on good craftsmanship and Norwegian design.
All of that sounds good, but it wasn't until I sat in their recliners that I was sold.

Fjords main steel structures are constructed in a manner that satisfies their strict quality requirements.
A carefully adapted layer of Dacron fibre is inserted between the upholstery and foam in order to provide the back and seat elements with extra softness and improved comfort. Certain models have more or less than others in order to optimize design and comfort.
There are considerable differences between block foam and Fjords’ moulded cold cure foam when it comes to the durability of its physical appearance. Block foam tends to lose its suppleness after a few years of everyday use. It becomes softer as time passes.
Fjord’s moulded foam is different. The Polyurethane foam is moulded in casts that have the exact shape of the product. Cast moulded cold cure foam retains its suppleness longer than block moulded foam, adding life to these recliners.
We all buy different chairs for different reasons. There are accent chairs and occasional chairs. Then there’s the chair you sit in for hours. That’s the “feel-good” chair, and that’s why we now carry Fjords.
